Substance Use

Reaching out for support for a substance use concern can be overwhelming. We are glad you’ve made it to our page! This is the first step to regaining control of your life and realigning with your own values. Whether you are: questioning the impacts of your use, wanting to make some modifications or are looking to completely give it up, our therapists will work alongside you to determine and execute your goals.

Session Focus

Some of the areas we may focus on during sessions are:


Substance Use

-Psychoeducation around substance use
-Looking into your relationship with your substance

-Determining goals best suited to you and your own life situation

-Acknowledging triggering people, places and things

-Building coping skills to reduce/refuse substance use as well as manage difficult emotions associated

-Look at underlying issues that may be supporting the substance use (ie: trauma, difficulty regulating emotions, chronic pain/illness, grief & loss, other mental health concerns)

-Developing a concrete relapse prevention plan to prevent returning to unhealthy patterns

-How to involve and discuss concerns with family members and other supports


Family Member

-Setting healthy boundaries with your family member

-Psychoeducation around substances and the journey of substance use

-How to communicate your own needs within the relationship

-Rebuilding joy in your life as well as your relationship with your loved one

-Navigating difficult emotions involving your loved one’s substance use
